Skewered by a fork in the teste, hmm? What have you been up to then? T
hough I must agree on some notes - born and bred though I was as an Aussie, I too have endured some horrendous public drunkeness - my own - at which point I always feel obliged to point out that my bloodline is pure Mother England - and then people nod sympathetically and understand why I have such an affinity for sleeping in gutters.
As for the national health service though - I'd love to see a comparative study on the state of Aus vs Eng hospitals. Have you Brits got preggers women given birth in the dunnies cos there's no beds left?

I agree with a lot of your comments - but they certainly DON'T do all the road repairs here in the USA during the night. In one city I used to commute through, they were working on the Interstate highway every day from 7 a.m. till 2 p.m. or so. The morning commute was hell! The were working on the same stretch of road for over 2 years - may still be for all I know, but fortunately I haven't had to do that particular drive for a while. They did stop for a few months for the New England winter though. The snow doesn't bring everything to a grinding halt over here as it does in the UK, but it does limit some things.

I agree with it all, especially the bit about the NHS. I live just outside Eastbourne. Months of campaigns to stop the reduction of the maternity unit have just failed. Emergency labours will now be rushed to Hastings....half an hour away on a good day.
Another for your list....nobody listens anymore. What the majority of the people want does not count. We are turning into a dictatorship.
